Makbis̱: matn-i dūzabānah

Shakespeare's Macbeth, one of the most enduring tragedies in the English literary canon, traces the catastrophic rise and fall of a Scottish general whose ambition, spurred by prophecy and the relentless will of his wife, drives him to regicide and ultimately to destruction. This bilingual edition presents the complete play in facing-page Persian and English, making it accessible to Persian-speaking scholars, students, and theatre enthusiasts whilst preserving the integrity of the original Elizabethan text. The Persian translation is the work of ʻAlī Salāmī, Professor at Dānishgāh-i Tihrān, who rendered the play from the authoritative Folger Shakespeare Library edition with the formal permission of that institution. Salāmī's translation is accompanied by extensive annotated footnotes elucidating cultural, linguistic, and dramatic nuances for Persian readers, alongside a critical essay and a select bibliography of Shakespearean scholarship.
