Kūdakān-i kār dar Īrān (Yak muṭālaʻah-yi sanadʹshinākhtī az dawrah-yi muʻāṣir)

Written by Zahrā Ḥātamī, this study addresses child labour as a new challenge confronting the Iranian state and society in the contemporary era, a challenge born of modernity that, in the twentieth century — a century named for the child — placed Iranian society on the threshold of transformation in its understanding of childhood and children's rights. Centred on child labour and grounded in written documents held in the archive of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the book examines the relationship between the government of Īrān and the International Labour Organization from the late Qājār period through the end of Riz̤ā Shāh's reign. Drawing on diplomatic correspondence, the author traces how international labour standards and humanitarian concern for working children were received, negotiated, and resisted within Iranian bureaucratic and political circles, offering a documentary foundation for the study of Īrān's early engagement with international child-welfare norms.
